good luck trying to explain this!
President Obama said that a world leader approached him at the G20 summit last week wondering why his critics are smearing him. The unidentified world leader told Obama, “We don’t understand it. You’re trying to make sure everybody has health care and they’re putting a Hitler mustache on you — I don’t — that doesn’t make sense to me. Explain that to me.”

I guess it is surreal to find a Dem senator actually doing his job
DoJ official finds it ‘surreal’ to have to respond to Franken’s concerns about Patriot Act.
Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing to discuss the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act. Committee member Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) used his question-and-answer period to investigate the provision that authorizes “roving wiretaps,” expressing concern that the law does not require federal authorities to identify the target with specificity before proceeding with surveillance. Franken then read the Fourth Amendment to one of the panelists, Assistant Attorney General David Kris, emphasizing that, “no Warrants shall issue but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” “That’s pretty explicit language,” noted Franken, asking Kris how the “roving wiretap” provision meets that constitutional requirement. The Washington Independent’s Daphne Eviatar reports what happened next:
Kris looked flustered and mumbled that “this is surreal,” apparently referring to having to respond to Franken’s question. “I would defer to the other branch of government,” he said, referring to the courts, prompting Franken to interject: “I know what that is.”

Census worker hanged with the word ‘fed’ scrawled on his body.
The AP is reporting that Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old part-time Census field worker and occasional teacher, was found hanged to death in Kentucky with the word “fed” was scrawled on the dead man’s chest. Investigators are still trying to determine the motive, but “law enforcement officers have told the agency the matter is ‘an apparent homicide.’” “Our job is to determine if there was foul play involved — and that’s part of the investigation — and if there was foul play involved, whether that is related to his employment as a census worker,” said FBI spokesman David Beyer.

New UN resolution aims at nuclear-free world
UNITED NATIONS – With President Barack Obama presiding over an historic session, the U.N. Security Council unanimously approved a U.S.-sponsored resolution Thursday committing all nations to work for a nuclear weapons-free world.
Russia, China and developing nations supported the measure, giving it global clout and strong political backing.
The resolution calls for stepped up efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, promote disarmament and "reduce the risk of nuclear terrorism." It calls for better security for nuclear weapons materials and underscores the Security Council's intention to take action if such material or nuclear weapons get into the hands of terrorists.

WTF?
Sebelius: No abortion money in health overhaulWASHINGTON – Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the president supports language in health overhaul legislation that explicitly prohibits money for abortions.
Sebelius says President Barack Obama has made it clear that his health care goals do not include using public money to pay for abortions.
The health secretary says Obama will include wording in overhaul legislation that explicitly prohibits the practice.
---
Are the Dems really removing another wildly popular plan just to try to appease the unappeasable repugs?! Even though a vast majority of Americans want this?
WTF is wrong with these idiots?
Shit, I'M not going to vote for Dems next time if this is the way they act when they are in the majority.
This country is just fucked if the Dems won't do what the American public wants. We expect that from the repugs, but we expected the Dems to actually do what they were voted in to do.
unless Dems started acting like Dems
---
Yeah, the Dems have to learn that they were voted in because of Democratic values, not just to cowtow to everything the repugs want, no matter how unpopular. Once they grow a spine and do what the American people want, and what they were voted in to do, then they would have nothing to worry about next election...
no official apology for lying
Rep. Wilson: No second apology for `You lie' wordsWASHINGTON – Rep. Joe Wilson says he's not going to apologize on the House floor for yelling "You lie!" during the president's health care speech to Congress last week.
Democratic leaders plan to propose a resolution of disapproval this week if the South Carolina Republican doesn't apologize to Congress. That would put Congress on record as condemning Wilson's conduct.
Wilson says he called the White House after the speech Wednesday night and apologized. He says the White House accepted the apology and that's good enough for him.
Wilson says he still believe that President Barack Obama was misstating the facts when he said illegal immigrants would not qualify for government health care.
---
Of course, no article on this matter has stated the fact that Wilson is the one who has been lying or that he should apologize for lying as well as for lowering the level of civility in this country to an almost unprecedented point.
Truly, sickeningly disgusting...
something only Democrats would do
---
Only Dems would downplay a wildly popular plan in the hopes of appeasing repugs who will never vote for anything that a Dem proposes, no matter how popular.
Repugs, on the other hand, will continue to push wildly UNpopular plans down our throats and tell us to like it and the Dems will simply say "yessir, may I have another".
I wish the Dems would finally remember who won the election.

I think bin Laden succeeded beyond his wildest dreams! Besides murdering thousands of Americans, he put the country in such a state of terror that it disregarded its core values, ignored its Constitution and its people basic civil rights, started an incredibly unpopular war against a country that had nothing to do with the attack, which then became an extremely successful recruiting tool for al Qaida and managed to destroy our economy. And this is only what I'm thinking of off the top of my head, without going into the details of the last 8 years.
I'm no history major, but I can't think of any other single attack in the history of the world that decimated a country and its ideals to such an extent.
Bin Laden couldn't have succeeded more even if he was working directly with bush. Bush did everything - and more - that bin Laden could possibly have wished for in his absurd reactions to the attacks.

Of course, even in his so-called "apology", Wilson doesn't admit that he was the one who was lying, not Obama. Obama truthfully said that the health care proposal does not cover illegal immigrants - which is easily proven to be true - and so Wilson lied about Obama lying.
I literally cannot imagine the outrage if a Democrat had called bush a liar - even when he actually was lying - especially in this setting. He would have been lucky to have gotten out of the chamber alive. I bet Wilson doesn't even lose his job, which he obviously should.
Utterly repugnant...
And, of course, Obama is almost infuriating in his graciousness:
Obama accepts lawmaker's apology for floor remark
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama accepted a South Carolina Republican's apology for shouting, "You lie!" during his speech to Congress, and House Democratic leaders showed no interest in sanctions against Rep. Joe Wilson.
Obama said Thursday that Wilson apologized "quickly and without equivocation" and the congressman told reporters the shout-out was "spontaneous."
"We all make mistakes," Obama told reporters, a day after Wilson stunned the president and his colleagues with his outburst.
Infuriated Democrats briefly considered sanctioning the four-term congressman, but decided early Thursday that doing so might distract lawmakers from getting an agreement to overhaul health insurance.
"It's time for us to talk about health care, not Mr. Wilson," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
---
And, of course, no article has yet to state that Wilson was the one who was - obviously and clearly - lying, not Obama.

John Harwood: Let's Face It, In a Country of Three Hundred Million People, There are a Lot of Stupid PeopleJohn Harwood lets one slip on MSNBC and tells the truth about these people fear mongering over the President speaking to school children next week.
Novotny: John, what about this controversy over opposition to Obama's speech to school children?
Harwood: I've got to tell you Monica, I've been watching politics for a long time and this is, this one is really over the top. What it shows you is there are a lot of cynical people who try to fan controversy and let's face it, in a country of three hundred million people there are a lot of stupid people too, because if you believe that's it's somehow unhealthy for kids for the President to say work hard and stay in school, you're stupid.
Novotny: Ouch.

not very imaginitive if this is the only solution he can think of
Giuliani: Without tort reform, health care can only save money by ‘pulling the plug on grandma.’
Last month, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani endorsed former Alaska governor Sarah Palin’s ridiculous claims about “death panels” in health care reform, saying that “whether they will do that or not I don’t know. … People assume these death panels will be created.” On NBC’s Meet The Press today, Giuliani continued to give credence to the idea, saying that because Democratic health care reform proposals don’t include medical malpractice reform or “interstate purchase of insurance,” it became “impossible for most Republicans to figure out how you’re going to save the money other than pulling the plug on grandma.”
---
Giuliani regularly claims that President Obama never put medical malpractice reform “on the table,” but as ThinkProgress has previously noted, this is simply not true. In May, Time reported that Obama told Republicans that he was willing to negotiate on curbing malpractice awards, but the Republicans were unwilling to make a deal.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is pushing back on signals from the White House that it will back a health care bill without a public option, saying any bill “without a strong public option will not pass the House.” “Any real change requires the inclusion of a strong public option to promote competition and bring down costs,” Pelosi said. “If a vigorous public option is not included, it would be a major victory for the health insurance industry.”

The Obama administration plans to reverse the Bush policy of keeping the names of White House visitors secret. a rare moment or truth and logic from Scarborough
Scarborough rips conservatives for seeking ratings by scaremongering about Obama’s education speech.
Earlier today, ThinkProgress noted that conservatives are freaking out over President Obama’s upcoming speech to schoolchildren about “persisting and succeeding in school,” claiming that it is actually aimed at political indoctrination.
On MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, host Joe Scarborough ripped into the hyperventilating conservatives. “Seriously, why don’t we want the president of the United States, any president of the United States, delivering the message to kids: work hard, stay in school, succeed,” said Scarborough, adding, “get your ratings if you want, you’re just screwing your political party.”

Bachmann: We should ‘make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers’ against health care reform.
Yesterday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) delivered a “speech filled with urgent and violent rhetoric” at a gathering sponsored by the Independence Institute in Denver. During what was originally billed as a “personal legislative briefing,” Bachmann “got downright biblical” when describing her unwavering opposition to health care reform:
“This [health care reform] cannot pass…What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn’t pass…Right now, we are looking at reaching down the throat and ripping the guts out of freedom. And we may never be able to restore it if we don’t man up and take this one on.”
According to the Colorado Independent, Bachmann also claimed that many Americans pay more than half their income in taxes, adding “it’s nothing more than slavery.” She affirmed that “you’re either for us or against us on this issue” and bragged about being the country’s “second-most hated Republican woman.” Rather than spending quality time in her home district during August recess, some speculate that Bachmann’s trip signals her “branching out” and sowing some “rich, right-wing Western soil” in preparation for a future national run.
