Town hall attendees boo GOP lawmaker for claiming public option would have prevented child’s birth.
During a recent town hall meeting, Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) told the story of a woman who was repeatedly denied care for her unborn child’s heart defect. After “hunting down specialists,” the woman “found one guy in Detroit who said, ‘I think we can get it done,’” Olson said. Seventeen days after the woman’s son was born, the child received the heart transplant. Olson then said that a public option would have prevented the woman from finding someone to help her unborn son. Many in the crowd promptly booed Olson:
OLSON: Britney is convinced that her son would not have been born if there was a public option. She wouldn’t have had the choices to be able to go find a doctor she wants. […] For those of you who say it’s not true, don’t talk to me, talk to Britney.
ATTENDEE 1: That’s not true!
ATTENDEE 2: The insurance company turned her down, not the government! The private insurance turned her down, not the government! My gosh! … That’s not the government!
OLSON: Texans, I want to thank you all for coming.

what a sick, heartless f'k
(Huffington Post)
my gawd, these people are twisted
Randall Terry ejected from Rep. Moran’s town hall.
Last month, Randall Terry, founder of the right-wing extremist group Operation Rescue, warned that his supporters might engage in violent acts of terrorism unless Congress prohibits abortion services from being covered in the new health reform legislation. Terry’s injection of violent rhetoric into the health care debate continued recently as he staged protests where he stabbed baby dolls. In Virginia last night, Terry was kicked out of a town hall held by Rep. James Moran (D-VA) and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean after he interrupted and accused Democrats of murdering babies. The Hill reports on Terry’s extreme protest last night:
The Moran town hall was the last stop on a 10-city tour for Randall Terry, the anti-abortion activist known for his extreme tactics.
Terry’s colleagues put on a skit with a man in an Obama mask pretending to whip a bloodied woman, who kept saying, “Massa, don’t hit me no more. I got the money to kill the babies.”
Terry himself dressed in a doctor’s lab coat and pretended to stab a woman in a gray wig.
“There’s no way to pay for this thing without killing granny,” Terry explained.

President Obama said that the country had lost “the greatest United States Senator of our time,” adding, “For five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts. … An important chapter in our history has come to an end.”(Think Progress)

Rep. Frank lashes out at protester for Nazi remark
DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Rep. Barney Frank lashed out at protester who held a poster depicting President Barack Obama with a Hitler-style mustache during a heated town hall meeting on federal health care reform.
"On what planet do you spend most of your time?" Frank asked the woman, who had stepped up to the podium at a southeastern Massachusetts senior center to ask why Frank supports what she called a Nazi policy.
"Ma'am, trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table. I have no interest in doing it," Frank replied.
He continued by saying her ability to deface an image of the president and express her views "is a tribute to the First Amendment that this kind of vile, contemptible nonsense is so freely propagated."
Frank, who chairs the House Financial Services Committee, sought to assure more than 500 people attending the rowdy meeting that the average taxpayer wouldn't be hurt by plans currently under consideration in Congress.
Some of those attending the meeting organized by the Democratic Town Committee of Dartmouth shouted and booed as Frank and others addressed the crowd.
At one point, Frank asked the crowd: "Which one of you wants to yell next?"

so, is Obama going to prove that he is just another politician?
Sebelius: Public insurance option not essentialWASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's health secretary is suggesting the White House is ready to accept nonprofit insurance cooperatives instead of a government-run public option in a health overhaul plan. A Republican senator says that is worth looking at.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says Obama still believes there should be choice and competition" in the health insurance market — but that a public option is "not the essential element."
Obama has been pressing for the government to run a health insurance organization to help cover the nation's nearly 50 million uninsured. But he had not seen a not-for-profit co-op as sufficient to offer consumers choice and competition that would bring down the costs of private insurance.
---
I know that Obama has always just been mildly center-left at best, but he did make some promises and it is very disappointing to see him act like just another politician who just makes campaign promises that he doesn't plan on keeping.
If he keeps this up, he will just have the entire populace mad at him - the conservatives for their imagined fears (that have nothing to do with reality) and the liberals and centrists for his pandering to the extreme right.
We still have to see how this plays out, but this is another issue that he should not bend on and that there is no reason for him to bend on and yet he continues to placate the right-wing extremists.
Is he really a conservative in disguise?

speaking out agianst the lunatic lies
Obama invokes grandmother's death in health debateGRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Now, it's personal. President Barack Obama invoked his own anguish over the death of a loved one as he challenged the debunked notion that Democratic efforts to overhaul the nation's health care would include "death panels."
"I just lost my grandmother last year. I know what it's like to watch somebody you love, who's aging, deteriorate and have to struggle with that," an impassioned Obama told a crowd as he spoke of Madelyn Payne Dunham. He took issue with "the notion that somehow I ran for public office or members of Congress are in this so they can go around pulling the plug on grandma."
"When you start making arguments like that, that's simply dishonest — especially when I hear the arguments coming from members of Congress in the other party who, turns out, sponsored similar provisions," Obama said.

The protester’s sign also declared, “Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids.” The detention of the unidentified, 51-year-old man by local police comes on the heels of two Democratic members of Congress reporting that they received faxes to their offices featuring pictures of Obama accompanied by the phrase, “Death to All Marxists! Stephen Hawking Sets the Record Straight
Which the editorial board of Investors Business Daily obviously is, as they allowed this to be printed on their pages.
People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.
Perhaps they don't have access to the Internets at Investors Business Daily, because even Wikipedia will tell you that Hawking is British, lives in Britain, and has lived to the age of 67 there, and was diagnosed with ALS under, and treated by the National Health Service for his entire adult life. They must have just been fooled by his voice synthesizer's American accent.
But just to make this absolutely clear, here's the man himself:

palin shows that she is certifiably insane
Palin says Obama's health care plan is 'evil'ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called President Barack Obama's health plan "downright evil" Friday in her first online comments since leaving office, saying in a Facebook posting that he would create a "death panel" that would deny care to the neediest Americans.
"Who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course," the former vice Republican presidential candidate wrote on her Facebook page, which has nearly 700,000 supporters.
"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil," Palin wrote.

I guess he hasn't been following the Obama coverage
McCain "Saddened" By "Vicious Attacks" On PalinSenator John McCain, (R-A.Z.), lamented on Sunday the treatment of the woman he tapped to be his vice president, declaring that former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin had been the victim of "vicious attacks" the likes of which he had never seen.
McCain insisted, during an interview with CNN's State of the Union, that Palin would continue to play an active and important role in Republican politics despite stepping down from the governor's chair. He called that decision to leave office a year-and-a-half prematurely, the "best" one Palin could have made for herself, her country, and her family.
Pointing to the Alaskan's critics, McCain said he was "kind of be saddened by the fact that there's still such vicious attacks on her and her family."
"I mean, I've never seen anything quite like it," he said, though it was unclear which critics he was referring to. "I respect her. I appreciate her. I think she has a role to play in the future."
Later in the segment, McCain said he would gladly have Palin campaign with him in Arizona, as he runs for re-election in 2010. He would not, conversely, commit to voting for her or any other potential Republican candidate for president in 2012, citing the distance between now and then, and the uncertainty of who, in fact, was going to make a White House run.
(Huffington Post)
---
I guess he has never seen such "vicious attacks" on a politician (apparently, repeating someone's own words is now a vicious attack - at least if they are a moron) because no one has been in the national spotlight who has been this unqualified.
But, if he is looking for completely unwarranted attacks, then he just has to watch the coverage of Obama - has any other natural born citizen who became president ever has his nationality questioned before - despite clear proof? Has any other president received such slanderous assaults for trying to help this country and our world? Yes, he has received legitimate criticism, but he has received far more absurd, biased, baseless attacks than Palin has, by a long shot.

can't we impeach insane politicians who can't separate their absurd religious beliefs from their duties to this country?
Lobbyist Dick Armey’s Pollution Gospel: ‘As An Article Of Faith,’ It Is ‘Pretentious’ To Believe In Global WarmingFormer House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX) appeared as a witness for the Republican bicameral hearing on climate change legislation yesterday on Capitol Hill. Along with a cadre of polluter CEOs and Chamber of Commerce officials, Armey played his part leveling an array of attacks on any effort to transition to a clean energy economy.
As the hearing progressed, most of the witnesses spent their time recycling months-old debunked studies. But Armey distinguished himself by invoking a religious argument to back up his smears against what he called “environmental hypochondriacs” filled with “eco-evangelical hysteria.” Armey claimed that in his world view, because God created the heavens and the Earth, it would be “quite pretentious” for people to believe God would permit global warming to even occur:
DICK ARMEY: What I’m suggesting is we have a sort of an eco-evangelical hysteria going on and it leads me to almost wonder if we are becoming a nation of environmental hypochondriacs that are willing to use the power of the state to impose enormous restrictions on the rights and the comforts of, and incomes of individuals who serve essentially a paranoia, a phobia, that has very little fact evidence in fact. Now these are observations that are popular to make because right now its almost taken as an article of faith that this crisis is real. Let me say I take it as an article of faith if the lord God almighty made the heavens and the Earth, and he made them to his satisfaction and it is quite pretentious of we little weaklings here on earth to think that, that we are going to destroy God’s creation. [...]
SEN. ORRIN HATCH: Mr. Armey it’s great to have you here. Great to see you again and we appreciate all you’ve done throughout the years and your work on Capitol Hill. Great job.
(Think Progress)
---
It's so scary that politicians can use their ridiculous superstitions to argue against the health and safety of this country and the world.
Of course, they are really just helping their buddies in "Big Oil", but even the fact that they could use these "arguments" in the course of the official duties is fairly sickening...

Twenty-eight percent don’t believe that President Obama was born in the U.S., and another 30 percent aren’t sure. The birther sentiment was strongest amongst people older than 60 and people living in the South. Politico’s Glenn Thrush asks, “When do we start a serious dialog about the Birther movement being a proxy for racism that is unacceptable to articulate in more direct terms?”
