McCain's surprise pick

McCain chooses Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for V.P.

DENVER – John McCain tapped little-known Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate on Friday in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.

In an announcement, the campaign said that Palin, who has been governor less than two years, "has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of."

More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

Obviously, McCain was going to unveil his pick today to deflect any post-convention bounce for Obama. And this pick will obviously be news.

Also, having a young-ish woman will help with the diversity of his ticket and help to balance Obama's youth. And, of course, hopefully pull some ex-Hillary supporters.

But after harping continuously on Obama's supposed "lack of experince", McCain picks someone who has considerably less experience? I think he will have a hard time convincing people that this inexperienced woman should be a heartbeat away from the presidency - especially considering his age.

More from Crooks and Liars, including the facts that she is anti-choice and pro-drilling. And, this is a nice quote: Palin wonders “what is it exactly that the VP does every day?”

Americablog also reports that she is pro-gun and anti-gay.
