Boehner: Troop deaths in Iraq are ‘a small price.’

In an interview on CNN today, Wolf Blitzer asked House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) about “the Americans who are killed every month” in Iraq and how much longer” the “military commitment is going to require?” “The investment that we’re making today will be a small price if we’re able to stop al Qaeda here,” replied Boehner. As Atrios notes, the “small price” Boehner refers to is “3774 dead US troops and counting.”

I'm sure that he didn't mean to come across quite this callous, but that really is a heartless thing to say, especially since it is based on a lie and nothing that we do in Iraq will "stop al Qaeda".

Maybe if we were actually fighting al Qaeda, rather than the sectarian civil war in Iraq, his statement would make a little more sense, but as it is, it is simply cruel.
