i'm actually kinda divided on this one...

Bush to outline aid to mortgage holders

WASHINGTON - Offering federal aid for strapped mortgage holders, the White House outlined proposals Friday to help borrowers hard hit by credit problems and the housing slump.

The initiatives, to be formally unveiled by President Bush, were intended to help homeowners with risky mortgages keep their homes. Bush also was to discuss efforts to prevent these kinds of problems from arising in the future.

I sorta think that if people were dumb enough to take out loans with terms that they couldn't honor, then they should be penalized.
But, I understand that this will screw up the economy even more...
I know that I waited until I was sure that I could afford a house before I bought one and I made sure that I bought one that I could afford. I didn't just jump blindly into something and I certainly wouldn't have accepted one of those ridiculous loan deals with adjustable rates. But, I know that people tend to be gullible and can be talked into things that they can't really afford...
