related to something I've been thinking about lately

Why doesn't Bush just arrest us all and have us shot and be done with?

Seriously. If Bush is going to go on national TV and declare that the Democratic leader in the Senate (Harry Reid), the head of the Democratic Party (Howard Dean), and a lead Democratic Senator (Dick Durbin) are committing treason by "giving comfort to our adversaries" by criticizing Bush's disastrous handling of the Iraq war, then arrest all three of them and have them summarily shot without a trial and let's be done with it.

I'm serious. If our president is going to argue in favor of America embracing the ideals of a Soviet police state, if that's the reason hundreds of thousands of Americans gave their lives during WWII, if that's the reason 160,000 US soldiers are risking their lives in Iraq right now, all for the purpose of America touting the ideals of our worst enemies, some of the most repressive and hated dictatorships in the history of the world, then be enough of a man to admit it, do it, and be done with it.

Otherwise shut up and start acting like the commander in chief of the greatest democracy on earth rather than some sniveling coward who doesn't even known enough about his own country, let alone the world, to understand what it is we're really fighting for.

I've thought about this about wrote about this before, but what all this comes down to is that Osama won a long time ago.
There is a good reason why there haven't been any further terrorist/al-Qaida attacks on our shores since 9/11 - there doesn't need to be. Bin Laden has already accomplished far more than he had any right to hope!
Because of his attack, our country was taken from one of the most beloved and respected in the world - an ideal that other countries aspired to - and we have basically become a dictatorship. No, we certainly were far from perfect before, but the change is insane!
The attack caused us to go from a record breaking surplus to a record breaking deficit. It has caused us to have a majority of our rights taken away from us without a fight on our part. It has caused our government to get away with incredible, illegal activities. It has started a trend towards a theocracy here - something that is very much against everything that our founding fathers stood for.
Our president lies to our faces with immunity. He has committed many crimes and has gotten away with them all. Undercover agents have been outed just for spite. Corruption is running rampant in his party. Incredibly unqualified people are continually picked for important posts just because of their links to bush.
In short, everything that America once stood for has been bastardized and destroyed and we are now a laughing stock of the world - led by an incredibly embarassing president - instead of being the ideal of the world.
It is sick what one man has accomplished. He doesn't need to do anything more.
