1) It is extremely obvious why the media is "picking" on Palin (i.e. reporting factual information) - she is newsworthy as the most unqualified VP pick in the history of this country.
2) While i wouldn't say she was homely, I would hardly call Palin a "babe"! I guess most politicians are just not good looking and that's why this is a story, but the Dem nominees and their spouses are all better looking than Palin!
