is multi-millionaire, elist, pro-business McCain sure that he wants to go this route?
McCain contrasts celeb Obama with average Americans
Continuing its portrayal of Barack Obama as a lofty celebrity, John McCain's campaign is going on the air today with a new ad that juxtaposes images of the Democrat as a rock star with claims that he wants to impose fiscal hardships on workaday Americans.
The ad, called "Painful," is clearly aimed at women, featuring footage of them in the home and workplace as well as with children.
"Life in the spotlight must be grand, but for the rest of us, times are tough," a grim-voiced female narrator says over arena shots and magazine covers of Obama before outlining his purported intent to raise taxes on the middle class, small businesses and seniors.
It's one of the few McCain ads that makes no mention of energy, instead focusing exclusively on keeping up the celebrity rap and hitting a Democrat on the perennial GOP claim that he wants to raise taxes.
McCain's campaign believes that, for all the flack it has received, Obama has not yet effectively figured out how to respond to the McCain campaign's blowing him up as a larger-than-thou world figure. This ad is in keeping with the attempt to paint him as an inaccessible figure with little regard for average voters.
It will be cycled in to the 11 swing states where McCain is already on the air.
UPDATE: Obama's campaign responds to the ad by flatly calling it "a lie."
Spokesman Hari Sevugan:
“This ad is a lie, and it’s part of the old, tired politics of a party in Washington that has run out of ideas and run out of steam. Even though a host of independent, nonpartisan organizations have said this attack isn’t true, Senator McCain continues to lie about Senator Obama’s plan to give 95% of all families a tax cut of $1,000, and not raise taxes for those making under $250,000 a single dime. The reason so many families are hurting today is because we’ve had eight years of failed Bush policies that Senator McCain wants to continue for another four, and that’s what Barack Obama will change as President."

So, the multi-millionaire with an heiress wife with a private plane, who doesn't know how much milk or gas costs, or how to inflate a tire, or how to get onto the internet, wants to pretend that he is more in tune with the average American than Barack is.
Wow....good luck with that...Of course, he has the media on his side, but still - how stupid does he think people are?
