people believe McCain

Poll: Many doubt McCain, lobbyist story

WASHINGTON - More people believe Sen. John McCain's denial of an improper relationship with a lobbyist than the original story that alleged it, according to a poll released Tuesday.
---
Nearly two-thirds of Republicans said they believe McCain, compared to one in five Democrats and two in five independents. Older people and conservatives were among those likeliest to believe the senator, while liberals were among those who most believed the Times.

---
Interesting though that only one in five Democrats and 2 in 5 independents believe McCain and yet the poll says that a majority of people polled believe him. Statistically, that sounds like they polled a lot more republicans and conservatives.
