a beginning for equal rights

California Lawmakers Pass Bill Allowing Gay Marriage
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Sept. 7) - The California Legislature on Tuesday became the first legislative body in the country to approve a bill allowing same-sex marriages, but the measure faces an uncertain future with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Of course, this is still far from certain and even in California a majority of voters voted against gay marriage, which is so bizarre that it is difficult to comprehend. I heard about this on the radio this morning and some repug was vehemently against this, saying that it would hurt future generations somehow. I have literally never heard anyone give any real reason or example of how this could possibly hurt anyone in any way, though it doesn't stop them from saying this. If they could give a coherent argument maybe someone would listen to them, but basically it just comes done to homophobic prejudices, which is sickening.
