condi in the news

via Americablog:
Stephanopoulos asks Condi about DSM
Ooh, he mentioned the Downing Street Memo in his intro, and then asked her about it directly. And she basically refused to even mention the memo, didn't undercut it, didn't even mention it. And Stephanopoulos, in classic MSM journalism, didn't follow up, didn't say "uh, mam, you didn't answer the question," nothing. These guys honestly think journalism is asking one question and not following up, no matter what the other guy says. Amazing.

Hagel: We're losing in Iraq

Wow. Wolf Blitzer just asked Condi Rice about this quote from Hagel in US News and
World Report
:

Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel is angry. He's upset about the more than 1,700 U.S. soldiers killed and nearly 13,000 wounded in Iraq. He's also aggravated by the continued string of sunny assessments from the Bush administration, such as Vice President Dick Cheney's recent remark that the insurgency is in its "last throes." "Things aren't getting better; they're getting worse. The White House is completely disconnected from reality," Hagel tells U.S. News. "It's like they're just making it up as they go along. The reality is that we're losing in Iraq."

From her garbled non-response, I think she was telling us that the insurgency just makes good t.v. -- so it's the media's fault.

Don't you just love our "liberal media" and they way that every single person in this administration does everything that they can to avoid answering any question posed to them?!

Still more condi lies (via Atrios):
"Generational Commitment"

Rice is probably the most shameless liar I have ever seen. For some reason the press is enamoured with her lies. They covet the shiny little dishonest baubles of untruth, embrace them, pet them, and ask for more. But, no, this country was not told that we'd be in Iraq for 30 years. I guess now we know.

...Rep. Conyers adds:

As Republican Senators publicly proclaim that the situation if Iraq is eroding, we learn that there is no "exit strategy" because no exit is planned.

how does the media allow these flagrant fabrications?! damn that "liberal media"!!

More from Think Progress:
Rice Says Administration Told Americans Iraq Would Be A “Generational Commitment”

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was asked if “the Bush administration fairly [can] be criticized for failing to level with the American people about how long and difficult this commitment will be?” Riceresponded:

[T]he administration, I think, has said to the American people that it is a generational commitment to Iraq.

That’s not true. To build support for the war the administration told the American people that the conflict in Iraq will be short and affordable.

Vice President Dick Cheney, 3/16/03:
[M]y belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators. . . . I think it will go relatively quickly. . . (in) weeks rather than months

Donald Rumsfeld, 2/7/03:
It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks.
I doubt six months.

Former Budget Director Mitch Daniels, 3/28/03:
The United States is committed to helping Iraq recover from the conflict, but Iraq
will not require sustained aid…
