what does it take for them to disavow someone?

Does DeLay have to eat a small living child on TV for the repugs to finally admit that maybe he isn't the one who should be House leader? The number of charges accumulating against him is astounding! There can't be that much smoke without some fire!
House Republicans Stand by Tom DeLay Amid Ethics Controversies, Dismissing Democratic Criticism

WASHINGTON -- House Republicans coupled expressions of concern with a public show of support for Rep. Tom DeLay on Wednesday as the embattled majority leader brushed aside fresh questions about his record.

Venting anger over attacks against DeLay and other targets, some members of the GOP rank and file criticized Democrats in unusually sharp terms. One, Rep. Bob Ney of Ohio, was quoted by fellow Republicans at a closed-door meeting as calling the head of the House Democratic campaign committee a snake.

Republicans are concerned about the potential damage to DeLay from the disclosures so far and fear that more may be forthcoming.

(I think that they should be afraid! No one could imagine any one person being involved in as many scandals as he already is, who knows how many more are waiting to be uncovered!)

For their part, Democrats leveled a new charge, that the ethical controversy surrounding DeLay was distracting from congressional efforts to tackle pressing problems.

"When politicians, the Republican majority, decides it is above the law, the American people are now seeing that they have a price to pay _ at the pump, for their pharmaceuticals, and in the absence of initiatives that would help grow our economy," said Pelosi.

She said Republicans had effectively shut down the ethics committee to prevent further investigations into DeLay.

In answer to all of these charges, the repugs do what they always do - ignore the facts, insult the Dems, and try to change the subject. The childishness of their name-calling is incredible coming from the leaders of our country! They can't answer the charges, and have nothing else to resort to, but man, they must get embarassed acting like babies! Wouldn't it be refreshing if just ONCE, one of these slimeballs just admitted to their wrong-doings and accepted their punishment? But, of course, their leader refuses to do that, so why should they?
