damn, we are living in depressing times

Americablog links to an article on groups who are fighting against scientific reason and want to revert to superstition and make-believe. They want to ignore proven facts simply because their "faith" tells them to believe something else. And, they want to force this absurdly unfounded "faith" into public school science classes! Shit, i was taught about evolution in my Catholic school science classes in the 60's! How far back in time are we going to go?!
This overwhelming conservative/religious bias in every aspect of our lives - politics, school, the media - is going to send us back to the stone age! We need to keep our minds open to new ideas, not try to deny already proven facts!
I suppose if i liked to keep myself insulated in a cave of my own making and didn't care what happened to anyone in the world, then i would be happy with the current situation. Unfortunately for me, i believe in thinking for myself and also in helping my fellow man. I care about keeping the world a healthy place to live in. I don't believe in restricting other people's freedoms because i don't agree with them. I don't believe that the government should be in control of every aspect of our lives. I want to live in a sane, peaceful world!
Its looking like that is way too much to ask for...
