We are so f'k'd - a never-ending saga

I know that a lot of people are talking about the so-called “moral values” that won this election for the wrong side. Everyone with a conscience is flabbergasted that people who are anti-gay and anti-choice feel that they have superior morals to those of us who are anti-war-for-no-reason, anti-torture, anti-terrorism, pro-civil-rights, pro-women’s rights, pro-economy, pro-environment, etc etc etc. It is pretty incredible that people are more afraid of gays having rights than they are of bin Laden attacking our country!

They seem to forget that this country was founded on the principle of “separation of church and state” and that people fled to this country to escape religious persecution. I suppose that they are simply very selective in their separations and their persecutions.

Maybe they would be surprised to find out that a number of us are somewhat skeptical (or downright frightened) of having someone who claims to talk to god as the leader of the most powerful country in the world. Most people who say something like this are put away – our country elects him president!

Everyone is saying that the Democrats have to rethink their strategies and plan differently next time. I guess this is true – we have to stop thinking that people are going to be informed and use common sense when voting. I suppose that we should be grateful that 48% of the people voted logically and were paying attention to what has been going on around them. I’m not sure how we can have an intelligent campaign that actually talks about the issues that these 48% obviously cares very strongly about, while also catering to the fears and superstitions of the other 51%.

It appears that the only way to win is to make up blatantly false accusations about the opponent (“he wants to take away your bible and turn your kids queer!”) over & over and make them spend all of their time & money addressing these ridiculous claims, since actual “issues” are boring! I certainly don’t have the answers, but I know that we are going to be paying for this for years to come.

We know that bush & co. are going to be working hard to take away the rights that people have fought and died for. I only hope that people have the will to continue fighting so that we can retain an America that truly is a democracy and that will once again stand by the principals on which it was founded. It will be a long, hard, road, though!

(It would be interesting to find out how many of these people who voted for bush because of his "moral values" are aware that he ditched out on his service to his country, has been arrested, has drinking convictions on his record, has been accused of using drugs, etc. Not to mention the fact that he has no problem murdering 1000's of people for no reason....But, again, I suppose that their "morality" is selective.)
